Hi,
I wanted to ask a question. I have seen other posts about problems with the cam wearing out. I have an '87 Savage, and I love riding it. But, I put a new cam in it and after 150 miles, it looks terrible. I have been adjusting the valves every 50 miles until I was sure that the cam was done wearing. I know that this is excessive, but I wanted the cam and rockers to wear in together. Now it looks as if the decompression mechanism is contacting the exhaust rocker, forcing the rocker to smack the cam instead of riding on the cam.
When I bought the cam, the service guy mentioned that there are 3 different recommended cam shafts for the 1987 Savage. I am wondering if anybody knows about premature cam wear. I think that a major problem is that the cam material is not hard enough. (And Suzuki made 3 attempts to correct this)
Are there aftermarket cams available? The bike only has 10,000 miles and it is wearing out it's 3rd cam shaft. I appreciate any help from people who may have had the same problem or who may have some advice.
Thanks,
Matt
BTW, I had a big problem with oil leaking into the head and blowing down the side of the bike, It turned out that the O-ring on the rocker was bad. The oil leaked out right above the spark plug and then blew out to the fins on the head.
